A South Dakota former state worker was indicted on felony charges for allegedly tampering with child abuse reports in early 2025.
Nova Collins, a 56-year-old former South Dakota state employee from Spearfish, was indicted on October 15, 2025, on four felony charges including forgery and falsification of evidence, and one misdemeanor charge related to falsifying public records.
The allegations stem from early 2025 and involve her alleged tampering with child abuse investigation reports while working for the Department of Social Services’ Child Protective Services.
The case marks the first criminal prosecution under Senate Bill 62, a new law requiring reporting of state employee misconduct.
The Attorney General’s Public Integrity Program is handling the case, which remains under investigation.
Collins is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
