A simulated multi-vehicle crash drill at a NSW hospital trained students and emergency teams to address rural healthcare shortages.
On October 15, 2025, a large-scale emergency simulation at South East Regional Hospital in Bega, NSW, involved medical and nursing students, emergency services, and volunteers to address rural healthcare workforce shortages.
The drill simulated a multi-vehicle crash with six injured patients, using realistic trauma scenarios and moulage.
Participants included NSW Police, Ambulance NSW, SES, Fire and Rescue, RFS, and Bega Volunteer Rescue Association.
Organized by ANU’s Rural Clinical School, the event aimed to inspire students to pursue rural careers through immersive, hands-on training.
Officials highlighted its role in building teamwork, resilience, and public trust, while reinforcing the importance of experiential learning in regional healthcare.
