A prison escape plot involving a helicopter and yacht led to the delay of George Marrogi’s civil rights trial.
A civil case involving George Marrogi, a 36-year-old inmate serving a 32-year sentence for drug trafficking and murder, has been delayed after prison officials found contraband in his cell, including a phone, screwdrivers, and 51 heart-shaped pills.
The case, which sought improved prison conditions such as greater access to outdoor areas, was paused after the Department of Justice requested a review of the contraband, prompting the court to reopen proceedings.
The delay follows revelations that Marrogi had plotted a complex prison escape in 2022 involving a helicopter and luxury yacht, based on documents, aerial images, and private information on staff and a judge, allegedly coordinated through unmonitored legal calls.
Prison staff also reported a history of threats and assaults by Marrogi.
The trial will resume at a later date.
