Maoists surrendered in Chhattisgarh, citing disillusionment and security pressure, part of a broader trend under state rehabilitation efforts.
Maoists, including two senior cadres from the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army Battalion-01 and 10 women, surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, handing over weapons and citing disillusionment with Maoist ideology and increased security pressure.
The group, with a combined bounty of ₹50 lakh, was influenced by state rehabilitation programs and sustained anti-Maoist operations.
This follows similar surrenders in the Kanker and Kondagaon districts, where over 100 cadres, including women and key leaders, laid down arms and received financial aid and promises of rehabilitation.
Authorities attribute the trend to the Chhattisgarh Navsankalp Surrender Policy and the Niyat Nella Nar development scheme, viewing the moves as a sign of declining Maoist influence.
The developments come ahead of elections and the festive season, as security forces intensify efforts to maintain stability in the region.
