On October 15, 2025, American skier Jim Morrison, 50, became the first person to ski down Mount Everest’s Hornbein Couloir on the north face, completing a 9,000-foot descent in four hours and five minutes.
The feat, achieved after three attempts and six weeks on the mountain, was documented by National Geographic filmmakers Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin for the upcoming film "Everest North."
Morrison, who had previously summited Everest with his late partner Hilaree Nelson, spread her ashes on the summit before the descent and dedicated the run to her memory.
The Hornbein Couloir, first ascended in 1963, had not been skied from summit to base since the early 1990s.
