NSW Police Chief Lanyon reports crime drops in Western region, launches local recruitment drive amid ongoing safety challenges.
NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon, appointed in 2025, is prioritizing regional and youth crime reduction, citing a childhood burglary as his inspiration.
On October 15, he highlighted a 24% drop in break-ins, 12% fewer stolen vehicles, and a 16% decrease in robberies in the Western region, attributed to Operation Soteria.
He emphasized ongoing challenges with domestic violence and speeding, which caused 42% of fatal crashes, especially in regional areas.
Lanyon introduced the “be a cop in your hometown” initiative to boost recruitment and trust by allowing officers to serve locally, while also stressing officer well-being and leadership support to improve retention and community relations.
El Jefe de la Policía de Nueva Gales del Sur, Lanyon, informa de la caída de la delincuencia en la región occidental, y lanza una campaña de reclutamiento local en medio de los continuos desafíos de seguridad.
