A Nebraska man opened fire on troopers during a child porn-related raid, then surrendered peacefully without injuries.
A 43-year-old Grand Island, Nebraska, man, Justin Jelinek, opened fire on Nebraska State Patrol troopers Wednesday morning during a search warrant execution linked to a child pornography investigation.
The incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. near Oklahoma Avenue and Sunny Valley Drive.
One trooper returned fire, but no injuries were reported.
Jelinek barricaded himself inside the home before surrendering peacefully after about 10 minutes of negotiations.
He was taken into custody and is held at Hall County Department of Corrections pending charges.
The Nebraska State Patrol’s SWAT team secured the scene, and dual investigations are underway—one into the child pornography case and another into the trooper’s use of force, which will be reviewed for policy compliance.
Authorities praised residents for their cooperation.
