The Navajo Nation declared a localized state of emergency for Birdsprings and Dennehotso chapters on October 14 due to severe flooding from Hurricane Priscilla, Hurricane Raymond, and monsoon rains between October 10 and 14.
Heavy rainfall caused washed-out roads, home and infrastructure damage, and threats to public safety.
Acting Emergency Management Director Edmund Tso reported 28 families in Birdsprings and nine in Dennehotso were affected.
The emergency allows access to Chapter Emergency Funds for shelter, food, water, and aid to vulnerable residents.
The declaration is valid for 90 days unless extended.
