Melbourne eases cat curfew, allowing leashed cats outdoors 6pm–8am after advocacy.
Melbourne has relaxed its cat curfew, allowing leashed cats outdoors between 6pm and 8am after advocacy by owner Sonia Hank and her cat Kepler Copernicus.
The City of Melbourne confirmed enforcement will be discretionary, with no penalties for owners walking controlled cats on leashes.
The change follows Hank’s efforts to secure access for her cat in parks and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
The council will review cat policies in six months.
Kepler, named after astronomers, will appear at the Cat Lovers Festival on October 25 and 26, promoting safe, leashed outdoor walks for cats.
