Kentucky to spend $118M on buyouts for 600+ flood-prone homes in six eastern counties.
On October 15, 2025, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced over $118 million in federal and state funding for voluntary flood buyouts in six eastern Kentucky counties—Floyd, Knott, Letcher, McLean, Perry, and Pike.
The funds, primarily from the USDA’s Emergency Watershed Protection Program, will help over 600 homeowners relocate from flood-prone areas, receiving fair market value for their homes and assistance with relocation costs.
State funds cover the required nonfederal cost share.
The program aims to improve safety, reduce long-term recovery expenses, and support community resilience.
