A Kentucky court has ordered the Public Service Commission to allow Kentucky Power to recover $15.7 million in previously denied expenses from a 2023 rate case, including $14.2 million in transmission costs and $64,000 in rate case fees.
The PSC responded by mandating a new energy usage-based surcharge, expected to increase the average residential bill by $5.97 monthly, starting in November and lasting through August 2027.
The surcharge will cover the court-ordered recovery of funds from January 2024 to February 2025.
