Italy's trade surplus grew in August 2025 as imports fell faster than exports.
Italy's trade surplus widened to €2.05 billion in August 2025, up from €1.34 billion a year earlier, as imports fell faster than exports. Exports dipped 1.1% year-on-year, while imports dropped 3.0%. Excluding energy, the surplus reached €5.5 billion. Meanwhile, the eurozone's trade surplus shrank to €1.0 billion in August, down from €12.7 billion in July, driven by a decline in machinery and vehicle exports. The EU recorded a goods trade deficit of €5.8 billion, wider than last year’s, as extra-EU exports fell 6.7%.
