Fiji and Pacific nations urge stronger climate action and funding ahead of COP30.
Fiji’s climate chief Dr. Sivendra Michael warned at COP30 preparations that the 1.5°C global warming target is at risk, urging strong action on climate finance and adaptation, especially for vulnerable nations.
He stressed the need for accessible funding and full negotiator participation, as Fiji advances its Climate Change Act with 13 of 17 sections enacted.
Meanwhile, Solomon Islands officials and civil society received Australian training ahead of COP30 in Brazil, with Australia also funding their delegation and supporting Pacific-led climate initiatives.
Palau’s Minister Steven Victor, speaking for AOSIS, called for tripled climate finance, stronger technology transfer, and urgent action to close the gap between current pledges and the 1.5°C goal, urging COP30 to deliver tangible results and restore trust in global climate cooperation.
