Equinor launched production at its large Bacalhau oil field in Brazil’s Santos Basin, using a deepwater FPSO with low-carbon tech.
Production has started at the Bacalhau field in Brazil’s Santos Basin, marking Equinor’s largest international offshore project with reserves exceeding 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
Located over 2,000 meters underwater, the field uses a 370-meter FPSO vessel with a daily capacity of 220,000 barrels and low-carbon technology, achieving about 9 kg of CO₂ per barrel.
Developed with partners ExxonMobil Brasil, Petrogal Brasil, and Pré-sal Petróleo SA, the project includes 19 wells to be brought online through 2026.
Equinor expects the field to generate over $5 billion in free cash flow by 2030 and support around 50,000 jobs in Brazil over 30 years.
