Eduardo Peñalver, former dean of Cornell Law School and president of Seattle University, has been unanimously selected as the 49th president of Georgetown University, succeeding interim president Robert M. Groves.
A Rhodes Scholar with degrees from Cornell and Yale, Peñalver, a leading scholar in property law and advocate for progressive legal theory rooted in Catholic social teaching, will lead the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit university.
He will assume the role following the 2024 departure of former president John J. DeGioia due to a stroke.
