A Detroit mother, Lacara Parks, 37, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possessing a weapon in a school zone after allegedly bringing a pocket knife to Gompers Elementary-Middle School on October 8, 2025, and giving it to her 13-year-old daughter. The daughter allegedly stabbed another 13-year-old student five times in a classroom, prompting a school closure and a community response. Parks was released on a $50,000 bond with a GPS tether, while her daughter, charged with assault and weapon possession, was released on a $10,000 cash bond with strict conditions. The school’s assistant principal is on leave, and a security guard who failed to search Parks is under investigation. The victim’s family has filed a lawsuit, and officials cite failures in school security and bullying prevention.
