A Colorado Springs police K9, Roam, is critically injured after being stabbed during a raid on a suspect who violated a protection order.
A Colorado Springs police K9 named Roam is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times during a Wednesday morning operation targeting a barricaded suspect, 37-year-old Anthony Bryant, who violated a domestic violence protection order.
Roam, 18 months old and not yet issued a stab-proof vest, was rushed to a veterinary facility where he underwent emergency surgery, including amputation of his left hind leg.
Bryant was subdued with a chemical irritant and taser, then arrested on charges including felony aggravated cruelty to a law enforcement animal, a charge enabled by a 2024 Colorado law.
The incident is under investigation, and Roam’s survival is uncertain, with the next 24 hours deemed critical.
The department and community are rallying support, including blood donations and fundraising efforts.
