Cambodian locals urge more tourists to visit Sambor Prei Kuk, a UNESCO site seeing declining international visits since the pandemic.
Cambodian tour guide Krouch Sodany and locals in Kampong Thom are urging more international tourists to visit Sambor Prei Kuk, a UNESCO-listed site since 2017.
The seventh-century temple complex, built by King Isanavarman I and featuring over 100 temples including 10 unique octagonal structures, has seen a sharp drop in foreign visitors since the pandemic, reducing Sodany’s monthly income from $350 to $100.
In the first nine months of 2025, the site received 10,962 international tourists and nearly 40,000 domestic visitors.
