Billionaire hedge fund investor Bill Ackman has donated $1 million to Defend NYC, a super PAC opposing Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign in New York City, according to Politico. The donation, made amid a tight race, follows Ackman’s prior $500,000 contribution to a PAC backing Andrew Cuomo during the Democratic primary, which Mamdani won. Mamdani now leads Cuomo—running as an independent—in general election polls. Ackman, a former Trump supporter and vocal critic of Mamdani’s Democratic Socialist views and statements on Israel, previously backed Mayor Eric Adams. Defend NYC, founded by a former Trump adviser, has raised $1.3 million from nine donors and has spent on consulting and polling. Mamdani’s campaign dismissed the donation, saying New Yorkers will choose their mayor regardless of outside money.
