Baton Rouge Community College broke ground on the Capital City Construction Lab on October 15, 2025, funded by an $850,000 Lowe’s Foundation Gable Grant.
The 4,434-square-foot, open-air facility near the Mid City campus will offer hands-on training in construction trades, including a new one-year plumbing program launching in January 2026.
The lab aims to address a growing demand for skilled workers, with 21,600 jobs projected in Baton Rouge and 74,500 statewide over the next two years.
The project supports BRCC’s workforce development mission and aligns with the Lowe’s Foundation’s goal to train 50,000 people in trade skills by 2028.
