A Washington court temporarily blocked the killing of a wolf from the Sherman Pack, citing concerns over ethics and science.
A Washington state court has blocked the Department of Fish and Wildlife’s plan to lethally remove a wolf from the Sherman Pack in Ferry County, issuing a temporary restraining order through October 28.
The decision follows a lawsuit by environmental groups who argue the agency’s action was unethical and unscientific, claiming the ranch had not used sufficient non-lethal measures and that killing another wolf could endanger the pack.
The Sherman Pack, which includes a breeding pair, has been involved in multiple livestock attacks over the past 10 months, prompting WDFW to authorize the kill after prior nonlethal efforts failed.
A hearing on October 28 will determine whether the order remains in place.
