Valeura Energy, Pinnacle Turkey, and Transatlantic Petroleum formed a joint venture to restart deep gas exploration in Türkiye’s Thrace Basin, targeting the Devepinar-1 well.
Valeura Energy Inc. has formed a joint venture with Pinnacle Turkey and Transatlantic Petroleum to revive deep gas exploration in Türkiye’s Thrace Basin near Istanbul.
The project, focused on areas below 2,500 meters across 955 square kilometers, aims to re-enter and test the Devepinar-1 well, with Transatlantic seeking a 50% stake by funding up to $2 million in re-entry and testing.
The move follows earlier discoveries of trillions of cubic feet of gas, though past efforts were not commercially viable due to low prices and high decline rates.
Now, rising European gas prices and a potential two-year extension to the exploration license may improve prospects.
Transatlantic will serve as contract operator, while Valeura retains operator of record status with Turkish authorities.
