People in the UK aged 66 and over with long-term back pain may qualify for up to £441.40 monthly through Attendance Allowance or Scotland’s Pension Age Disability Payment, non-means-tested benefits based on need for daily living support, not mobility.
Over 78,000 in Great Britain and nearly 155,000 in Scotland receive such support, with payments made every four weeks.
The higher rate applies if help is needed during the day, night, or both.
Benefits are not affected by income or savings, and recipients can use funds flexibly.
Applications can be made online, by phone, or post via GOV.UK or Citizens Advice.
Those below State Pension age may instead qualify for PIP or ADP.
The final 2025/26 uprating depends on September’s CPI, with figures expected in the November 26 Autumn Budget.
