Two Wyoming officers cleared after shooting man during home invasion; prosecutor says force was justified.
Two Wyoming police officers were cleared of criminal charges after shooting and killing 31-year-old Luis Hernan Fernandez Sandoval during a Sept. 16, 2025, home invasion.
Sandoval, who had recently separated from his wife, broke into the Lemyra Street SE home through a window after being denied entry, carried a handgun, and threatened residents, including pointing the weapon at a relative.
Officers responding to a 911 call arrived to find Sandoval inside, pointing a gun at them.
They opened fire, striking him twice; he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker concluded the officers acted in justified self-defense, citing the volatile situation, Sandoval’s violent actions, and the need to protect others.
No charges will be filed.
