Two Wirral businesses, Papa Gino’s in Birkenhead and Day Choice Convenience Store in Moreton, are under licence review after immigration enforcement found unauthorized workers, resulting in combined fines of £85,000.
The convenience store was fined £40,000 following a September 2024 raid, and Papa Gino’s was fined £45,000 after a December 2024 inspection.
Both cases involved arrests for working without permission and violating bail conditions.
The Home Office cited a 50% increase in enforcement actions nationwide and emphasized that illegal working harms legitimate employers, depresses wages, and fuels criminal networks.
Six Wirral businesses were fined £255,000 between January and March 2025.
Public comments on the licences are due by October 20 and October 27.
