Sri Lanka’s Navy seized over 839 kg of drugs, including 670 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 156 kg of heroin, and 12 kg of hashish, from 51 floating packages in the southern seas near Tangalle on October 14, 2025.
The narcotics, suspected to be linked to trafficker 'Unakuruwe Shantha,' were recovered during a 32-day operation involving the Eastern and Southern Naval Commands and intelligence from early September.
The shipment, abandoned at sea with deactivated tracking systems, was transported to Tangalle Fisheries Harbor and handed to the Police Narcotics Bureau.
The seizure is part of a national anti-drug campaign led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, adding to 1,248 kg of heroin and 1,852 kg of methamphetamine confiscated in the past nine months.
