The charity said the damage reversed years of conservation work, destroying vegetation vital to local wildlife. The council defended the action as part of an annual management plan to prevent nutrient buildup and maintain Green Flag Award standards, stating no valued habitat was lost and the work followed established procedures. However, FOEP disputed the claim of proper consultation, calling the incident a breakdown in communication.
