Japan’s Kurita and UK’s Evove partner to deploy DLE tech for sustainable lithium, launching first plants in Nov 2025.
A new partnership between Japan’s Kurita Water Industries and UK-based Evove, announced October 7, 2025, aims to accelerate deployment of Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology to meet rising global demand.
The alliance combines Evove’s filtration tech with Kurita’s engineering expertise, targeting sustainable lithium production from geothermal brine, aquifers, and oil/gas wastewater.
First commercial plants are set to launch in November 2025, with a UK project in County Durham expected to begin operations by late 2027, eventually scaling to over 20,000 tonnes annually by 2035.
Kurita becomes Evove’s largest shareholder and gains exclusive rights to deploy its DLE systems, plus non-exclusive access to its upcoming Separonics filtration tech.
The initiative supports the UK’s push for local, low-impact lithium supply to power electric vehicles and batteries, reducing reliance on volatile global markets and tariffs under the UK-EU Trade Agreement.
