India's edible oil imports fell 1% in September 2025 to 1.6 million tonnes, with palm oil imports dropping 16.3% to 829,017 tonnes—the lowest since May—due to higher prices.
Refiners shifted to cheaper soybean and sunflower oils, with soyoil imports surging 36.8% to 503,240 tonnes, the highest since July 2022, including a record 300,000-ton two-day purchase from Argentina.
Sunflower oil imports rose 6% to 272,386 tonnes.
Despite the shift, overall imports remain near record levels, driven by strong demand ahead of the festival season.
