India cut GST on farm goods and tools, launched new farming schemes to boost farmers’ incomes.
India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced reduced GST rates on key agricultural inputs, including bio-pesticides, tractors, and farming machinery, effective September 22, to lower costs for farmers.
The move, part of the government’s “next generation GST” initiative, aims to support the agrarian economy.
She highlighted the PM-FME scheme, which has sanctioned over ₹11,000 crore in loans and trained more than 100,000 entrepreneurs since 2020.
Sitharaman also introduced the ₹24,000 crore PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, targeting 100 districts for improved seeds, natural farming training, irrigation, and market access.
Over 43 lakh farmers in Karnataka receive ₹6,000 annually under the PM-Kisan scheme.
