Four men charged in Canada over massive 60,000-plant poppy field seized in Edmonton.
Edmonton police have charged four men after uncovering a large illegal poppy field with about 60,000 plants near 34 Street and 195 Avenue NW in July 2025.
The find, one of the largest in Canadian history, was discovered during a raid by the EDGE unit, with authorities seizing the plants and doda powder used to make narcotic tea.
The operation, rare in Canada due to climate and soil challenges, is believed to be the second-largest poppy seizure ever, behind a 2010 case in B.C.
No processing facilities for heroin were found, and the plants, valued up to $500,000, were destroyed.
The accused, aged 30 to 42, face charges of producing a controlled substance.
