Florida lawmakers propose requiring public school teachers to swear allegiance to the U.S. and state constitutions.
A proposed Florida bill would require public school teachers to take a formal oath of allegiance to the U.S. and Florida constitutions, affirming their commitment to uphold the law, teach professionally and nonpartisanly, maintain academic integrity, and serve as role models.
The legislation, introduced by Rep. Tom Fabricio, aims to boost accountability and professionalism in education and is set for consideration starting January 13, 2025.
The oath would mirror those taken by other public officials, lawyers, and doctors.
The bill has not yet been passed.
