Finland's foreign minister urged Georgia to protect freedoms and democracy during her visit.

Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, concluded her October 15, 2025, visit to Georgia, reaffirming international support for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. She praised the EU Monitoring Mission and OSCE cooperation, emphasized the importance of civil society, media, and human rights defenders, and expressed concern over restrictive laws and the detention of opposition leaders. Valtonen urged Georgia to address democratic backsliding, restore public trust, and uphold freedoms in line with the Helsinki Final Act.
