Ericsson and Canada's EDC launch $3B, 3-year R&D push in 5G, AI, and quantum tech to boost innovation and supply chains.
Ericsson and Export Development Canada have launched a $3 billion, three-year partnership to boost R&D in Canada focused on 5G, Cloud RAN, artificial intelligence, and quantum technology.
The agreement aims to strengthen domestic supply chains, expand collaboration with Canadian businesses and institutions, and enhance Canada’s global competitiveness in next-generation telecommunications.
It builds on a prior CAD 634.8 million R&D deal and supports Ericsson’s operations in Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto, where it employs over 3,100 people.
The initiative includes financial and insurance support from EDC to scale Canadian-led innovations and integrate them into Ericsson’s global network.
