Delhi High Court orders central government to respond to lawsuit over stalled minority rights commission appointments.
The Delhi High Court has directed the central government to respond to a public interest litigation over prolonged vacancies in the National Commission for Minorities, including the chairperson and other key posts, calling the situation “very important.” The court emphasized that the commission’s inability to function without leadership undermines its role in protecting minority rights.
The petition, filed by Mujahid Nafees, argues that the NCM has been effectively defunct since November 2024, with no appointments made after the last chairperson’s term ended on April 22, 2025.
The government’s response is pending, with a hearing scheduled for November 14.
