The Indianapolis Colts are signing veteran quarterback Brett Rypien to their practice squad after backup Anthony Richardson was placed on injured reserve with an orbital fracture sustained when a pole snapped during a pregame warmup.
Rypien, 29, previously played for the Broncos, Rams, Bengals, and Vikings, with 11 NFL games, 950 passing yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
The Colts also evaluated Jeff Driskel, Jaren Hall, Tanner Mordecai, and Kyle Trask in tryouts.
Rookie Riley Leonard will back up starter Daniel Jones as the team prepares to face the Los Angeles Chargers on the road.
