Bruce Lehrmann, a former political staffer accused of misappropriating confidential submarine documents, is challenging the National Anti-Corruption Commission’s seizure of two personal diaries, claiming they contain legally privileged information and should be held by an independent party.
The NACC says no formal privilege claim was submitted, and a federal judge questioned her authority to order the requested protection, suggesting Lehrmann resolve the issue directly with the commission.
A mediation order between Lehrmann and federal minister Don Farrell is set for December 1, 2025, over unpaid legal costs, with a one-day hearing scheduled for February 2026.
Lehrmann denies the document allegations and rape accusations from 2019, which were found proven on the balance of probabilities in a 2024 civil case, leading to his defeat in a defamation lawsuit he is appealing.
