BDC and Community Futures launch $100M initiative to boost rural Canadian entrepreneurs with expanded funding and support.
The Business Development Bank of Canada is launching a $100 million initiative, in partnership with Community Futures, to support 520,000 rural and remote entrepreneurs across Canada, where entrepreneurship rates are higher than in urban areas.
The program aims to expand access to capital, training, and business tools through 267 local Community Futures offices, potentially doubling loan amounts and enhancing support for early-stage startups.
It complements BDC’s broader Community Banking strategy, building on prior investments in women and Indigenous entrepreneurs, and is expected to generate up to $250 million in GDP over five years by addressing geographic and resource barriers faced by rural business owners.
