Abu Dhabi funds $25M road upgrade in eastern Uganda to boost transport and economic growth.
The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development has agreed to a AED91.8 million (US$25 million) loan to upgrade a 98.3-kilometre road in Eastern Uganda, connecting Kumi, Ngora, Serere, and Kagwara.
The project, co-financed by ADFD, the Islamic Development Bank, and Uganda’s government, will build a 7-metre-wide roadway with shoulders and bridges, aiming to improve transport, reduce travel time and costs, enhance safety, and boost economic growth—especially in the Kagwara region near Lake Kyoga.
The agreement was signed by ADFD’s Director-General Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi and Ugandan Finance Minister Matia Kasaija.
The initiative marks a continuation of a partnership dating back to 1977, with prior investments totaling AED79.3 million.
