Vietnam re-elected to UN Human Rights Council for 2026–2028 with highest regional votes.
Vietnam has been re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council for 2026–2028, receiving 180 votes—the highest in the Asia-Pacific group—during a UN General Assembly vote on October 14, 2025.
The country, which served a term from 2023–2025, was the only Asia-Pacific member from that group to secure re-election.
Its re-election reflects international recognition of its constructive engagement, including co-leading a joint statement on the human right to vaccination backed by 52 nations and contributing to discussions on youth rights, climate change, and vulnerable groups.
Vietnam also made 12 voluntary commitments on legal reform, digital transformation, and development goals aligned with its 2045 vision.
The new term begins January 1, 2026.
