UK researchers found a 220-meter-long sauropod trackway in Oxfordshire, revealing dinosaur behavior and ancient coastal life from 166 million years ago.
In 2025, UK researchers uncovered a 220-meter-long sauropod trackway at Dewars Farm Quarry in Oxfordshire, one of Europe’s longest known dinosaur trails from the Middle Jurassic Period, around 166 million years ago.
The site, revealed after a controlled explosion, features large footprints up to one meter long, likely made by dinosaurs like Cetiosaurus, along with smaller carnivore tracks and marine fossils, indicating a coastal lagoon environment.
Despite dry conditions limiting excavation, the team documented rare behavioral clues, such as a possible pause in movement, and collected sediment for future study.
The discovery, involving over 100 participants, enhances understanding of dinosaur behavior and ancient ecosystems.
