Trump falsely claimed U.S. trade threats ended India-Pakistan tensions after a 2024 attack, but India denies U.S. role.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed at the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, that his administration’s threat of 100% to 200% tariffs had swiftly ended tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly April terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people.
He asserted that trade pressure forced both nations to cease hostilities within 24 hours and credited this and other conflicts to his use of economic leverage, claiming credit for seven peace deals.
However, India has consistently rejected these claims, stating that disputes with Pakistan, including over Jammu and Kashmir, are bilateral matters not subject to external mediation.
