Taiwan’s Tzu Chi and India’s BHU to create Buddhist research center for translating and studying classical texts.
On October 14, 2025, Taiwan’s Tzu Chi Foundation and India’s Banaras Hindu University agreed to establish a Buddhist research center within BHU’s Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies.
The center will focus on scholarly research, translation, and publication of classical Buddhist texts from both Theravada and Mahayana traditions, aiming to revive interest in Mahayana Buddhism in India.
Tzu Chi pledged support for translating and publishing scriptures into Indian languages, with BHU committing to fast-track the project.
The collaboration, backed by university officials, seeks to strengthen academic and cultural ties between India and Taiwan through shared Buddhist heritage.
