A semi-truck crash on I-85 killed seven people in a van transporting 37 cats for Furkids Animal Rescue.
A semi-trailer crashed into a Dodge van on I-85 in Jackson County, Georgia, on Monday afternoon, killing all seven people inside the van and triggering a chain reaction involving four other vehicles.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety said the semi was following too closely, causing the van to catch fire.
The van belonged to Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelter and was transporting 37 cats to Vermont, having left Atlanta about 90 minutes earlier.
All victims died at the scene.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating.
The identities of the deceased have not been released.
