Royal Mail expands parcel drop-offs to 45,000 locations by 2030, backed by a £3.6B acquisition.
Royal Mail plans to expand its parcel collection points to 45,000 by 2030, aiming to place a drop-off location within a five-minute walk in cities, five minutes by car in suburbs, and 15 minutes in rural areas.
The company will roll out 3,500 solar-powered “postboxes of the future” with barcode scanners and digital drawers, capable of handling parcels up to shoebox size, and expand its Royal Mail Shop network to nearly 8,000 convenience stores.
Out-of-home parcel deliveries are expected to rise from 15% to about one-third within five years.
The initiative follows the June 2025 £3.6 billion acquisition of Royal Mail’s parent company by Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky’s EP Group.
