R&B icon D’Angelo, 51, died in NYC from pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy of neo-soul classics and unfinished new music.
R&B and soul icon D’Angelo, born Michael Eugene Archer, died at 51 in New York City after a private battle with pancreatic cancer, his family and former manager confirmed on October 14, 2025.
Known for pioneering the neo-soul movement, he rose to fame with his 1995 debut album Brown Sugar and won four Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Album for Voodoo and Black Messiah.
He is survived by three children; the mother of his first son, singer Angie Stone, died earlier in 2025 in a car crash.
D’Angelo was working on new music at the time of his death, with producer Raphael Saadiq confirming he was preparing six new songs.
