Priceville City Council reinstates Officer Garry Chapman after fatal high-speed chase caused by drug-impaired suspect.
The Priceville City Council has voted to reinstate Officer Garry Chapman, who was fired after a high-speed chase that ended in a fatal crash on September 6, 2025, killing 17-year-old Tristan Hollis.
The chase, which involved speeds over 100 mph and occurred after suspect Archie Hale, under the influence of fentanyl, amphetamines, and marijuana, fled police on suspicion of DUI, ended when Hale struck another vehicle.
Chapman, son of Duane Chapman, will return to duty after a 10-day unpaid suspension, work probation, and mandatory retraining.
The council cited his clean record and the suspect’s drug-impaired state as key factors.
The decision follows a three-hour executive session and public testimony, including support from Chapman’s father and community members.
Hale remains jailed on reckless murder charges.
