Liberia’s Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay has launched an audit of former Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh’s tenure, the first of its kind, to boost judicial transparency and accountability.
Announced on October 13, 2025, during the Supreme Court’s opening term, the audit began September 4 and aims to address longstanding financial oversight gaps.
Gbeisay also mandated asset declarations from all judges and magistrates within 30 days or face consequences.
A separate civil service review revealed pay disparities and outdated staffing, prompting corrections under government supervision.
President Joseph Boakai endorsed the reforms, stressing judicial integrity and linking justice to national development.
Despite these steps, systemic challenges like prison overcrowding and court backlogs persist without immediate solutions.
