Jamel McGriff, 42, pleaded not guilty to murdering a Queens couple in a home invasion, arson, and robbery.
Jamel McGriff, 42, has pleaded not guilty to a 50-count indictment in the alleged murder of a Queens couple, Frank and Maureen Olton, both in their 70s, following a home invasion on September 8.
Prosecutors say McGriff broke in, tied the husband, Frank Olton, 76, to a pole in the basement and stabbed him multiple times, while the wife, Maureen Olton, 77, was found severely burned on the first floor.
Authorities allege he remained in the home for about five hours, set it on fire, and fled with the couple’s phones and credit cards.
Surveillance footage showed him leaving with a duffel bag, and he used their credit card for $796.10 in purchases at a Manhattan Macy’s and deposited their phones into a Bronx cash machine using his ID.
McGriff, a level 3 sex offender with a prior 16-year prison sentence, is charged with first- and second-degree murder, kidnapping, arson, burglary, and robbery.
He is scheduled to return to court on November 12 and could face multiple consecutive life sentences if convicted.
