Jailed activist Sharjeel Imam seeks 14-day interim bail to contest Bihar Assembly elections, citing campaign logistics and family care.
Jailed activist Sharjeel Imam, accused in the 2020 Delhi riots case under the UAPA, has filed for 14 days of interim bail from October 15 to 29 to contest the Bihar Assembly Elections as an independent candidate from Bahadurganj.
He argues he has no one else to manage his campaign except his younger brother, who is caring for their ailing mother.
Imam, a former JNU PhD student, has been in custody since August 25, 2020, and was denied regular bail by the Delhi High Court in September.
His appeal is pending before the Supreme Court.
The court has not yet ruled on his interim bail request.
